Above: Porirua Park will come alive next Tuesday and Saturday for the International Schools Rugby series, involving the School Blacks, New Zealand Secondary Schools Barbarians and Australia and Fiji Schools teams.
The 2014 New Zealand Schools and Barbarian Schools teams to play Australia and Fiji have been named this morning.
The New Zealand Schools team and the New Zealand Barbarian Schools teams will both face the touring teams during the series to be played on Tuesday 30 September and Saturday 4 October at Porirua Park, the home of the Jubilee Cup in 2004, 2006, 2008 and 2010.
Seven local players - all from Scots College and St Pat's Silverstream - ?will be in action in these games, with Scots College backs Malo Tuitama, TJ Va'a and Scots College prop Alex Fidow joined in the School Blacks squad by Silverstream lock Lui Okeamoa-Luamanu and Silverstream backs Losi Filipo and Jarrod Adams are in the Barbarians side.
It is understood that captains of these teams will be named in the coming days when they go into camp.
New Zealand Schools Coach Dave Hewett said his team was a well-balanced side that he expected could be competitive across all positions.
"We have been watching the form of these players right through the season and our recent development camp for the players helped us fine tune our decisions and pick a very strong side. I'm looking forward to seeing how they go against the Australian and Fijian teams.
"It's fantastic to see players in the squad from schools other than the traditional powerhouses of college rugby. It shows it doesn't matter where you're from, talent always shines through." ?
New Zealand Barbarians Coach Darren Larsen said the standard of talent in his side demonstrated the depth of talent in college rugby. ?
"There's a great mix of players in the team, from players with the x-factor to hard grafters who get in and get the work done.
"We are looking at a pool of talent that is likely to produce our future Super Rugby players and All Blacks - and that's exciting. We are in for some exciting rugby."
