Stream Steamroll Wellington College in second half

St. Pats Silverstream: 26 (Kienan Higgins 2, Masima Neylamoris, Swayde Brightwell tries; Riley Forbes 2 con, Harrison Boyle con) Wellington College: 3 (Oliver Paotonu 1 pen)

St. Pats Silverstream have regained the Ken Gray Memorial Cup with a commanding second half against Wellington College.

Silverstream turned a 5-3 advantage into a resounding win with three unanswered tries in the second-spell. On a heavy ground, a tight and fumbling tussle turned in favour of the visitors in the 41st minute when lock Masima Neylamoris strode 15-metres unopposed after receiving an offload from openside Josh Southall.

Silverstream plugged the southwestern corner and was able to force mistakes with their abrasive defence. Second-five Kienan Higgins battled over after a long forward assault and reserve halfback Swayde Brightwell collected a fumble and scampered away with about 12 minutes to go.

Earlier Wellington employed their lineout with great effect to cage Silverstream in their 22.Captain and lock Naitoa Ah Kuoi was typically disruptive and hooker Wareti Cooper was busy and accurate until he left the field injured late in the first spell.

Despite Wellington enjoying two-thirds of possession, it was Silverstream who looked more threatening.

Clean breaks by Todd Svenson, Chris Aumua and Albert Polu didn't result in points but Polu did plough through the Wellington defence from a scrum and set up Higgins for the first try of the match.

After earlier missing a penalty, Wellington First-Five Oliver Paotonu kicked a penalty with the last act of the first half.

Southall, with his abrasive defence and strength with ball in hand, was arguably the match of the match. Reserve lock Aisea Mafile'o helped steady a shaky Silverstream lineout and Higgins was assured and creative. Both No.8's Denzael Leota (Wellington) and Toalima Anae Laupola (Silverstream) were full of running and Silverstream tightheads Luke Chisholm and Stanley Paese produced sturdy shifts with the latter showing out with ball in hand too.

Silverstream haven't lost at Wellington in the traditional since 2009 and join Scots College and Rongotai College as the only unbeaten teams in the WelTec Premiership after two rounds.

This coming Saturday, Silverstream hosts Porirua College and Wellington College plays away at Tawa College.
