UPDATED: It’s Finals Day of the Hurricanes U18 competition tomorrow, with the Centurions U18s team travelling to Masterton to take on the Wairarapa Bush U18s in the main decider.
Both the Centurions and Wairarapa Bush have sailed through the preliminary rounds and the latter hosts the final based on superior points differential. Kick-off at Memorial Park is at 12.30pm.
Back home, the Wellington U18s Samoans and the Wellington Community U18s meet at Jerry Collins Stadium at 12.00pm in the playoff for third and fourth.
The Wellington Samoans are coming off a 20-33 loss to the Fijian U18s on Thursday night.
Last weekend the Samoans beat East Coast 60-12 and the Community side defeated Horowhenua-Kapiti 81-12.
This match precedes the biggest match of the season for the Wellington U13s who host the Auckland U13s in their annual match on the JCS at 1.45pm.
All other Wellington representative teams are playing away from home tomorrow.
In Palmerston North, the Centurions U85kg team plays the Waikato U85kg representative side for the “Gallon Cup”, a traditional that was started in 2015. Kick-off at Arena Manawatu is 4.00pm.
The Centurions U85kg played the most recent of their three games so far a fortnight ago in a narrow loss to the Tasman U18s, while Waikato have been playing in the six-team Northern Region U85kg competition. Last week they lost 7-19 to Thames Valley Development. The competition was won by the Auckland U85kgs who won all five matches and defeated Waikato 43-15 a fortnight ago.
In Ashhurst, the Wellington U18 girls side tackles Hawke’s Bay U18. Kick-off at Lincoln Park is 1.00pm.
In Napier, the Wellington Development take on a Hawke’s Bay Saracens (Development) side in hot form after taking down their Manawatu counterparts 100-15 last weekend to retain their Hurricanes Development Shield title.
The Wellington side will be looking for a more settled start in their second match together after falling behind by 35 points to Tasman Development and unable to climb back in the second spell in their 39-46 loss. Kick-off at Tremain Field, Napier, is at 1.00pm.
On the North Shore, the Wellington Pride play the North Harbour Hibiscus in round five of six of the Farah Palmer Cup Women’s NPC competition. The Pride would secure a home Championship division semi-final with next week’s final round to spare with victory. The Pride have rotated in a few squad members off the bench into the starting XV for this match, with hooker Rosie Stirling, tighthead prop Dora Laupola and centre Bernadette Robertson all lining up from the opening whistle.
The Pride are coming off a record 88-3 win over Tasman last week, while North Harbour met a 10-52 defeat to Hawke’s Bay. They had previously posted consecutive 50-point wins overTaranaki and Tasman so will prove tough opposition at home for the Pride. This is the first clash at NPC level between these teams.
The Wellington Lions close out the Saturday of rugby by hosting the Tasman Mako at Westpac Stadium in round seven of the Men’s NPC. Both sides will want to win to stay inside the top four of the NPC Premiership standings as the business end of the season draws closer. Kick-off is 7.35pm.
The Wellington U16A and U16 Development teams head over to Masterton next week from Monday to Thursday for the Hurricanes U16 tournament.
The U16A team will be defending the Don Broughton Shield. They play Poverty Bay on Monday and Hawke’s Bay on Tuesday. The U16 Development team will be defending the Saracens Cup. They play Hawke’s Bay Development on Monday and Wairarapa Bush on Tuesday. Wednesday is a rest day and finals day is Thursday.
