Battle of the Bridge at Ngatitoa Domain this Saturday

Above: Teariki Kie Tonga (Paremata) and Tane McMillan-Parata (Plimmerton).? Two clubs became one in 1959, and on Saturday team loyalties are divided by the Paremata bridge.

Paremata-Plimmerton club stalwart Paul Latham is bringing the old club colours back for a "Battle of the Bridge" match at Ngatitoa Domain this Saturday.

Battle lines will be drawn for a match to be played between those who have to cross the bridge (Paremata) to come to the club and those that don't (Plimmerton).

The current Paremata-Plimmerton RFC was formed with the amalgamation of Paremata and Plimmerton Rugby Clubs.

The purpose of the match is as a fund-raiser for injured players and to reflect on the club's successful 2014, making the Hardham Cup for the first time since 1987, and looking forward to 2015 and the probable structural changes to Wellington's club competitions.

It is important to ensure that when a player gets injured during the season, regardless of severity that the Club supports them and their family in their recovery, Latham said.

"Every registered player gets to keep their commemorative jersey and socks, and all proceeds will be going into a player welfare fund, to assist with providing financial support to the club's injured players." Latham explained.

?"The interest has been fantastic and we have a mix of youth and experience in both teams, the clubs social teams and competitive teams are joining? forces with each team including a mixture of Colts, Reserves, Presidents, Premiers and sponsors!

"My hope is that it can become an annual event on the club calendar."

The match at Ngatitoa Domain kicks off at 3.00 pm. It's a game of three halves, to give both sides whose team sheet extends to 30+ an opportunity to give everyone a decent run.

?The game is being held on the afternoon of the club's prize giving so it can provide an afternoon's entertainment for our wider club community.
