Entries into this year's Auckland 7s tournament are officially open. The event in its third edition is to be held on 22-23 November 2014 at Harvey Wright Fields in conjunction with the Northcote/Birkenhead Rugby Football Club.?
Entries are open for both New Zealand and International Club teams in the Women's, Open Men's and Colts (U21) divisions.
The two-day tournament will see the introduction of a Boys' Colts competition on Saturday 22nd and the women's division on Sunday 23rd with the Open Men's being played like Nationals 7s over both days.? "We loved the intensity of the women's competition last year and we think the girls deserve to showcase their talent in front of the boys and the public" Event Manager Melita Martorana said.
Event organisers are also looking forward to hosting the first International teams as part of the partnership between the Auckland7s and Noosa International 7'sFestival event. The? winner of the Auckland 7's Open Men's competition will receive an official invitation and complimentary entry fees to compete at the 2015 Noosa 7's event. Meanwhile the Maroubra Women's Sevens club from New South Wales have already confirmed their participation.
The Wellington Men's and Women's representative teams have both entered.
Northland (Men's) and Auckland Marist club (Women's) are the defending champions, while Counties Manukau representative team won inaugural Auckland 7s tournament in 2012.
Official entries will be accepted till 17 November and due to limited numbers in each division, teams are encouraged to apply early.? Event organisers advise there has been preliminary confirmation of participation from several teams so they strongly suggest getting in early to avoid disappointment.
