There was an operatic finish to the Taranaki final, as defending champions Inglewood did all they could to steal top qualifier New Plymouth Old Boys’ thunder.
NPOB won the final 17-15, but it took last-gasp try and a sideline conversion by Logan Rei to take the title. Inglewood had led 12-10 at halftime and then 15-10 with fulltime fast approaching. But a yellow card and a try to left wing Jackson Carrington locked the match up. Rei then slotted the biggest kick of his life.
In the Waikato, the Hamilton Marist Ravens defended their crown, edging University 10-8 in the final. Hamilton Marist led 10-3 at halftime and held on grimly throughout the second half. The students eventually scored with about 10 minutes remaining but couldn’t land the conversion from wide out. The Ravens won the title for the third consecutive year. Hamilton Marist also won the Premier B final.

The boot of Josh Casey kept Taieri in touch and 13 points in the second half, while keeping Southern scoreless was enough to get Taieri the win. In the second semi-final, it was University A who attacked whenever possible and led 28-16 at halftime. Harbour closed the gap and eventually took the led but a break by University A first five Fletcher Smith was finished off by Matt Faddes. The conversion pushed the students ahead 35- 33 and into the final.
