The Wellington Centurions U85kg Squad is currently preparing for two big games.
The Wellington Centurions U85kgs are hitting the road to take on the Waikato U85kg team at 2:30pm tomorrow on Owen Delaney Park in Taupo before coming home to face North Harbour at St Pat’s Town Artificial at 3.00pm next Saturday.
With the cancelation this year of the New Zealand Barbarians tournament that was held in Auckland in 2012 (won by Wellington Centurions) and again most recently in 2013 it looked like the Centurions team would have no games this season.
The Waikato side were keen to come down to Taupo and play, after the Centurions played North Harbour there in 2014. North Harbour then offered to come to Wellington for a one-off match, which was great from both those unions.
The Wellington side was selected after the recent U85kg division 1 Paul Potiki Shield final on 29 August (won by the Tawa Titans over the Poneke Cavs) and the Centurions have compiled a very good team with huge experience who are really looking forward to the challenge and have been training well.
The Waikato, North Harbour, Auckland, and Counties Manukau U85kg teams have all been playing each other recently so those teams will have good preparation under their belts leading into the games.
Waikato are coming of a 22-19 win over North Harbour and an 8-20 defeat to Auckland in recent weeks.
Wellington Centurions are coached by former MSP Blues coach Andrew Robinson and assisted by Eastbourne coach Greg Halford who is taking the forwards. The team is managed by Rory McNicholas (MSP).
