Following a review and recruitment process throughout September by OBU’s Coaching Appointment panel, Old Boys University has appointed Jamie Williams as their Premier Head Coach for the 2017 season.
Jamie joined the OBU coaching staff in 2015 as backs coach after a successful rugby career overseas with Harlequins, Bristol and Bath. He has also gained valuable experience as part of the WRFU U19 coaching team in 2014 and 2016. Jamie's strengths include the development of players with team and one on one video analysis sessions, which challenge individual players to improve their knowledge and understanding of the game.
Jamie takes over the reins after working as Assistant coach with outgoing premier coach Jeremy Little, a team that secured OBU its first Jubilee Cup in 49 years and the club's first ever Swindale Shield.
OBU Chairman Jaesen Sumner said “the Appointment Panel interviewed some strong candidates for the Head Coach role but were very pleased when Jamie stepped forward to apply for the role. The panel felt that Jamie’s track record spoke for itself while his analysis and understanding of the game is at the highest level. The panel also factored in the continuity Jamie’s appointment would bring to the club. We wish Jamie well for 2017 and look forward to Jamie stamping his mark on OBU rugby further with his appointment to the Head coach role.”
Jamie said “I’m really looking forward to the challenge and responsibility that comes with the Premier Head Coach role at OBU.
I'm excited about the talented group of players we have returning, as well as some of the young players coming through to challenge for positions within the premier squad.
Outgoing Premier Coach Jeremy Little has done a fantastic job over the past two seasons and has put the club to the forefront of Premier Rugby in Wellington.
We will be looking to kick on from what Jeremy has started and will be aiming to recapture the Swindle Shield, as well as being serious contenders for Wellington club rugby's ultimate prize in 2017, the Jubilee Cup”.
Announcements regarding Jamie’s assistants will be made shortly.
