Tukapa confirmed a home semi-final, five still in hunt

Tukapa are the only side? to have a confirmed home semi-final with only one competition round left in 2013.

Competition leaders Tukapa have already confirmed a home semi-final after their week 13 win in the Cast Iron Services Taranaki club rugby competition.

Five teams will battle it out in the final round next weekend for three remaining spots.

Tukapa fought hard to beat a difficult Southern side 17-7 at Saunders Park. First five-eighth Jack Cameron added to his leading season tally with a 50-metre solo try.

A shot-at-goal opportunity could have been taken to help Southern qualify but they took a lineout option instead. ?

Southern now drop from second to third on the ladder on 30 points with a must win game against Spotswood in Hawera to qualify next weekend.
New Plymouth Old Boys have moved to second with a tight 25-24 win over Clifton. Frazier Climo knocked over five penalty kicks with proved the difference in an intense match played infront of a very strong crowd.

NPOB started well with two early tries in the corner, but Clifton came back suggesting that match will prove to be very entertaining, and entertaining it was.

Clifton's fullback Beaudien Waaka played well with a 60 metre runaway try including number of successful kicks at goal.

As a result, the loss moves Clifton down to fifth place on 25 points with a must need win over Stratford away to be in contention for the play offs.

The Old Timers were impressed by a Spotswood's 43-21 victory over Stratford.

Played on an outer ground at Yarrow Stadium, the home side scored seven tries in a try fest.

Spotswood still have a chance of maintaining their top four spot as they sit on 26 points.

Inglewood's season is still alive with a 24-23 win over defending champions Coastal in Okato.

Taranaki loose forward and Inglewood captain Berny Hall scored a hat-trick in their bonus point win.

The big home crowd would have been disappointed with Coastal's season as they have lost a number of players from last year and are out of the 2013 competition.

Inglewood sit equal with Clifton on 25 points and if they can pip Tukapa next weekend they still have a chance to play semi-final rugby.

With only one week left in the competition, Coastal and Stratford have no hope of making the top 4 but will play for pride next weekend. ?
