The Avalon RFC was established in 1980 with the amalgamation of the Naenae Old Boys’ and Taita RFCs, the Avalon RFC has been at the forefront of Wellington club rugby, winning the Swindale Shield in 1991, 1993 and 2001 and narrowly missing out? winning the Jubilee Cup in the early 1990s, later 1990s and again in the early 2000s.
Nestled in the hills of the lower valley, the riversiders have a proud history and cherish many memorable moments on their recently redeveloped Fraser Park.
Avalon offers a high quality rugby setup for both players and coaches of all abilities to develop their rugby knowledge and skills all year round. They have great facilities, awesome teams, qualified and experienced coaches and some of the best rugby services available to up and coming players.
Recent Hurricanes and Wellington Lions players Thomas and Scott Waldrom and Mahonri Schwalger have been great ambassadors as well as being inspirational role models within the club.
In 2013 the club fields teams in several grades, their first XV making the Hardham Cup and striving for re-promotion to Premier rugby.
Over the years the club has survived because of the fantastic voluntary support given by all its members and the ability to work as a team. We welcome players of all ages and abilities to come and enjoy their rugby with us at the mighty ‘Avalanche’.
