Above: Jonathan Bentley back playing for Hutt Old Boys Marist recently after several years overseas.
In August last year Wellington Lions coach Chris Boyd asked Jonathan Bentley, "How long are you staying in New Zealand for?"
Bentley was over from England on a brief break and responded, "a couple of weeks." Boyd replied, "can you make it a few months?"
In 2014 the Lions employed the services of six first-fives in 10 games.
"It seemed to be one of the seasons where everything that could go wrong, did go wrong," Bentley says...

The Tour
For the second time in six years, and following recent visits by England (1973), Scotland (1975) and Ireland (1976), a full British Isles team embarked on a comprehensive tour of New Zealand. The tour lasted three months from mid-May to mid-August and took in 25 matches, including four Tests against the All Blacks.
The previous British Isles tourists had proved tough to beat, and this one, featuring 16 players out of 30 from Wales including captain Phil Bennett, plus Ireland’s Mike Gibson who had toured New Zealand with the 1966 and 1971 Lions, was expected to perform just as well...

Under ashen skies, Old Boys University lit up the Basin Reserve with three barnstorming second half tries to sink an injury hit Wainuiomata side 26-8, while Tawa kept their noses ahead of previously unbeaten Oriental-Rongotai to win 31-22 at the Polo Ground...

After several rounds in reasonably good conditions the weather has turned with wet and heavy conditions underfoot likely after the rain this week, though the gales are forecast to ease for Saturday. That is likely to alter the gameplans for the sides in the Jubilee and Hardham Cups but also unlikely to slow their attacking intent.
UPDATE: There are some changes to times and venues in the Women's grade and lower grades. For the competitons that we run through this website please visit Draws & Results above...

Above: The Northern United Women’s team last Friday night with the Fleurs Trophy. First round winners Norths have a bye this Saturday.
Saturday has the start of the Championship rounds of the Women’s Competitions. The pressure will be on in the Premier grade, with each side playing only four matches (plus a bye) before the semi-finals and then the final, which replaces the Colts Division 1 final as the first match up on Finals Day this year...
