The Charles Monro Rugby Volunteer of the Year Award will lead the community accolades at next Thursday's annual New Zealand Rugby awards at a swanky inner city Auckland venue. The Charles Monro award - named after the man who introduced rugby to New Zealand in 1870 - recognises club rugby's volunteers. This year's three nominees are from Auckland, Manawatu and Wellington. Suburbs Rugby Club stalwart Gary Donovan, Manawatu junior rugby advocate Mark Andersen, and dedicated Petone Rugby Club loyalist Mike Wollett were all nominated by their respective provincial unions for their long and outstanding contributions to rugby for their club and community...More
St. Mary's College Win Condor Sevens
Tuga Mativa was approached by a friend in 2015 offering him a chance to mentor the St. Mary's College First XV and Sevens teams. The Ories Premier winger was initially reluctant, but after some serious arm twisting accepted the job. Just over 12 months later St. Mary's College are the National Condor Sevens Champions defeating Hamilton Girls' High School 19-17 in the final at Sacred Heart College in Auckland today. Hamilton controlled the ball initially shifting it from side to side and breaking through when tournament MVP Jazmin Hotham scampered away...More

Aisle Be Back: Paris
What went through your head on Sunday as the All Blacks staggered across the line in Paris?I decided I'd live blog my internal ramblings as game went on. Not always coherent, but here we go.PRE-GAMEThat strip. Well, let's see if it wins or not. Pretty much all that counts.Oh no, no singer for the anthems. Cunning, as the boys mumble through what may be God Defend, or something by Adele, it's hard to tell. Thought  that counts though. No such confusion  with La Marsellaise. Check out the lyrics if you never have...More
Expanded Condor Sevens tournament in Auckland this weekend
The place to be this weekend is Auckland’s Sacred Heart College, where many of the college games hot steppers, speedsters, and big hitters will congregate for this year’s Condor Sevens tournament. The move to Sacred Heart from its previous venue at Kelston Boys’ High School has come in part due to another expansion in the size of the tournament. Eight more boys sides have been added along with four more in the girls, taking the two fields to 32 and 20 teams respectively, so four fields will be in use...More

St. Bernard’s College – 70 Years of Rugby
A book chronicling the History of St. Bernard’s College rugby has been produced for the period 1946-2016. The book itself follows the fortunes of each First XV since 1957 with selected match reports and full results from 1960 onwards. There is an account of all the Lower Hutt school’s traditional matches, past and present, including the background to each fixture. Author, Mark Keating, a former old boy and First XV Coach, found that knowledge of our past was scattered amongst generations but no one had the full picture of the college’s proud history in rugby or its achievements...More
