The 2013 Premier Swindale Shield, Senior 1 Harper Lock Shield and Senior 2 National Mutual Cup Wellington club rugby competitions are kicking off on Easter Monday.

Opening round Swindale Shield matches on Monday 1 April are:

•?? ?Defending Jubilee Cup champions Marist St. Pat’s versus Old Boys University at Evans Bay Park for the Jack Lamason Memorial Cup.

•?? ?Defending Swindale Shield champions Hutt Old Boys Marist versus Wainuiomata at William Jones Park

•?? ?Northern United versus Poneke for the Cyril Collett Memorial Shield at Porirua Park.

•?? ?Petone versus the Wests Roosters for the Gareth Head Memorial Trophy at the Petone Recreation Ground

•?? ?Tawa versus Upper Hutt for the Mexted Motors Cup at Lyndhurst Park

•?? ?Rimutaka versus Oriental-Rongotai at Maoribank Park


Some? features of the 2013 club rugby draw are:

  • Last year’s popular ANZAC Day round returning with five local derby matches plus MSP and HOBM squaring off for Marist supremacy and the Father Cleary Shield.
  • A round of matches on Sunday 28 April, following Thursday’s ANZAC Day round.
  • Hutt Old Boys Marist and Petone playing for the famous McBain Shield in round eight on 11 May.
  • The ‘Thanks Ref’ round in round nine on 18 MayA new combined Premier 1 college First XV - Premier Swindale Shield in round 10 on 25 May. Details of this round to come
  • Oriental-Rongotai hosting Petone on 1 June for the Jim Brown Memorial Trophy as part of their 125th Anniversary over Queen's Birthday Weekend.
  • The 2013 Swindale Shield champions being crowned on the last round on 1 June, followed by the start of the Jubilee and Hardham Cups on 8 June.
  • Club Finals weekend being played on the weekend of 3 and 4 August
  • All representative players being available for Finals weekend.
  • Last year’s Senior 1 first round Harper Lock Shield champions MSP and runners-up OBU meeting in the opening round of the Senior 1 season on Easter Monday.
  • Last year’s third place Senior 1 Harper Lock Shield placegetters Johnsonville hosting newly promoted Wellington FC at Helston Park in the opening round of the Senior 1 competition.
