2006 Marist St Pat's Sportsman of the Year Ged Robinson is the centre of attention in an in-form Marist St Pat's forward pack. The energetic hooker has been at the forefront of a resurgent MSP Premier side in 2007, who are heading into this week's Jubilee Cup third round against Poneke unbeaten against Norths and Old Boys-University.

This week is also the last round of club rugby before the Vodafone Wellington Lions squad to play Waikato in a pre-season match next Friday night is announced and another strong performance against Poneke could be a timely one for Robinson.

Born in raised in Newlands, Robinson played junior rugby for Johnsonville, nominating the mighty Rewa Rewa Park in Newlands as his favourite ground to play on. He then attended St Pat's College in Kilbirnie between 1997-2001, ahead of joining MSP and making his premier debut against the Wellington Axemen in 2002. Robinson was initially back-up hooker to Luke Mahoney, playing off the bench in MSP's last Jubilee Cup final in 2003. Mahoney's shift to the Wests Roosters in 2005 saw Robinson take over the hooking duties for MSP. The emergence of Dane Coles at MSP last year (now at Poneke) allowed Robinson to add a new string to his bow playing at N0. 8 for a time, but a shift back to hooker this year has seen Robinson flourish.

He has been a member of the Wellington Rugby Academy since 2004 and has been a regular player for Wellington B during that time. He made the full Lions bench in games against Auckland in 2004 and Taranaki in 2005 and earned his first cap in a pre-season match against Canterbury last year. He is contracted to Wellington until the end of 2008.

A handy cricketer, Robinson plays senior club cricket for Johnsonville, alongside 2006 Club Weekly Hardham Cup correspondent and Wellington Firebird Luke Woodcock. His favourite movie is the Shawshank Redemption and he savours combination fried rice with double meat as his preferred dish of choice.
