Norths hoping to pull clear of the pack in Women’s rugby
Round 7 of the Fleurs Trophy reverts to Saturday morning after last Friday night’s round of matches. Leaders Northern United have the chance to put themselves clear on the table this weekend when they host Avalon at Porirua Park. After winning the top-of-the-table clash with Oriental-Rongotai two weeks ago they made no race of things against minnows Johnsonville, while the Avalon She-Wolves had few issues in seeing off Poneke. Avalon will be without loose forward Carol Sio, who is one of four Wellington players at the Black Ferns camp and trial in Palmerston North this weekend, though they may have the services of sevens representative Kat Whata-Simpkins...More
St Pat’s Town edge Wellington College in tight battle at Evans Bay Park
Wellington College's place on the WelTec Premiership's cloud nine has ended today following a down-to-the-wire 15-11 loss to St. Patrick's College Wellington. The hosts were able to retain the Old Boy's Centennial Shield and beat Wellington College for the first time in consecutive years since 1989 in blustery conditions at Evans Bay Park -  but it didn't come easily for them. St. Pat's scrum was the key factor in the opening stanza, driving Coll back repeatedly and resulting in numerous penalties, using this to camp in Wellington College's half...More

Eagles all but win Swindale Shield; top eight race to go down to the wire
Above: OBU and Paremata-Plimmerton contest possession on Saturday. UPDATED: The Jubilee Cup glistens in Hutt Old Boys Marist’s Hutt Recreation Ground clubrooms trophy cabinet and next week no matter what happens the Swindale Shield will be presented to them as well if the WRFUcommittee overturns Tawa’s appeal for their docked two points from last month. HOBM beat Tawa 28-22 today to skip six points of second placed Tawa with next week’s final round to play - but if Tawa are awarded back the two points early next week that were stripped from them for breaking WRFU front row replacement bylaws in their match against Old Boys University in April they will remain alive to win the title...More
All seven results to count in significant Swindale Shield round
Above: Tawa and Norths, who met last weekend, will be locked in key battles tomorrow – but for different reasons. Tawa play HOBM in a top-of-the-table clash , while Norths meet Marist St Pat’s a match that will likely decide their fate for the second round. Round 10 of the Swindale Shield is headlined by the top-of-the table clash at the Hutt Rec, while every single one of the other six matches have implications on the race for the Jubilee Cup places. There will be plenty of checking in scores from elsewhere as clubs look to figure out where they stand...More
Double century up for Nick Risdon for the Eagles on Saturday
Nick Risdon runs out to play his 200th Premier match for the Hutt Old Boys Marist Eagles in Saturday’s top-of-the-table Swindale Shield match against Tawa. Club Rugby caught up with Risdon (pictured above playing in the 2007 Jubilee Cup final) this week ahead of his milestone. How special will reaching 200 Premier games for you be and how will you celebrate it? It will be a pretty special achievement. It’s obviously something that has taken a while and not many people have achieved...More
College at Club Round as Tawa and Wairarapa Colleges join the competition
This coming weekend sees the start of competition proper in the top two Premier grades, with several matches being played at club grounds as part of the ‘College at Club’ round which is intended to showcase and smooth the way for school leavers into the senior club game. The renamed WelTec 1stXV Premiership competition features two new sides in 2015 in last year’s Premier 2 finalists, winners Tawa College and runners-up Wairarapa College. Tawa won through their grading pool, beating Newlands and Aotea Colleges in their first two games, with promotion assured when 2013 and 2014 top-flight school Naenae College defaulted to them last Saturday...More
Loads of talent in all-time colleges XVs
Heading into the WelTec 1stXV Premiership rugby season in Wellington, which starts this coming Saturday with the College at Club round, we’ve taken a look at the four traditional First XVs in Wellington and named all-time XVs. The schools are Wellington College, Rongotai College, St Patrick’s College Wellington and St Patrick’s College Silverstream. The naming of the four all-time XVs below is a subjective exercise. With the exception of the St Pat’s Town all-time XV which was named last year by the school, these have been compiled by us...More

New Zealand U20s Profile: Henry Stowers
? Above: Henry Stowers running rampant for Wainuiomata in last year's Wellington club rugby Jubilee Cup final. Wainuiomata lost the final 11-14 to Hutt Old Boys Marist, but Stowers was prominent throughout - as he is in most games he plays.? Surprised by Henry Stowers’ inclusion in the New Zealand U20 Junior World Championship squad that leaves for Italy later this month? Don’t be. So far Stowers hasn’t featured in the New Zealand U20s set-up this year, and wasn’t included in the squad that won the Oceania Junior Championship on Australia’s Gold Coast last weekend...More
